Via Bicycle has been in business since 1982 and has primary been a used bicycle shop. We have bought out many bike shops and specialize in selling reliable bicycles for city commuting. We also have a fully capable shop that builds wheels, overhauls everything from basic 3 speed and coaster brake hubs to exotic turn of the century bicycles. Having been in business for all those years, we have acquired many odds and ends.

this place preys on unsuspecting newbies. can't speak to their service ability. though i know that they'll gouge you on all sales. i definitely do not recommend this place. check out bicycle revolutions on 4th & bainbridge instead. the one good thing about this place is they stockpile junk. so if you need an old, odd part, chances are they have it or know where to get it. other than that, go somewhere else.

Every time I step foot in this shop I receive wonderful customer service. I have been given piss poor service in other reputable shops, and treated as if I don't know a thing (Probably because I am a girl.) I have purchased 2 bicycles from here over the years, and always had my free one-month checkup encouraged heartily. These guys really want you to be happy with the bicycle you buy, or the repairs you have done.
Yes, they tend to get crazy-busy in the summer months, but that is just testament to how many people trust and prefer their work.
This is the place to go if you want something affordable, unusual, or if you just want to take in some eye candy.

Ok so here's the story:
I bought my girlfriend a nice old schwinn at a yardsale, and the chain broke, so we took it down to via. The wait was a bit long, which, as i'm not an impatient yuppie addicted to big-box stores, i'm okay with.
One of the employees said that instead of replacing the chain, they would just replace one link (and charge us just as much). I was hesitant, since the chain had lots of nicks in it, and i told the guy so, but he insisted that things would be fine.

The next day, the chain broke again, and my girlfriend wiped out pretty hard in the street. Thankfully, she was okay, but pretty angry. So we took the bike back to via, and we told the owner our story. Of course he was eager to make us happy and avoid a lawsuit, so he said if we left the bike there he would fix chain almost free of cost.

So we picked up the bike later, and on the way home it stopped working...
I carried it home, only to discover that THEY NEVER TIGHTENED THE SCREW ON THE BACK WHEEL. They gave our bike back "ready to ride" without the back wheel even attached. My girlfriend was pretty pissed, so I offered to go back the next day and complain, but she refused to even step foot back in the shop. We went to Frankenstein on Spruce and got tenfold better service and competence.
