Since the 1970's Old City Philadelphia has been the best of what Philly has to offer, and National Mechanics, a Philly born and bred bar and restaurant, is up to the challenge.
The building itself, formerly the premiere underground club “Revival”, is a beautiful Greek Revival building which first housed the National Mechanics bank and later the Norwegian Seamen's Church. The architect was acclaimed U.S. architect William Strickland whose notable achievements are the Tennessee Capitol Building and St. Steven's Church in Philadelphia.

I don't hang out here every night for my health. I hang out here every night because everything about it rocks.
The food is great the drinks are cheap, and the company is some of the best in Old City. Monthly performances by their resident sideshow, The Olde City Sideshow, amazing and astounding every time!!!
The beer list is good- the food is better. This building has served as a location for many failed establishments- this is the first that has gotten it right! Keep it up!

Had the veggie burger -- which they claim is the best in the world -- or at least close. It was really good. Instead of grounded and pounded veggies, it was strips of fresh sliced veggies held together with a decent consistency. The beer selection is also quite good, but the kicker is the location. A former bank, this place is striking inside and out.
