Geno's Steaks was started by Joe Vento back in 1966. He figured that if he was going to sell a steak, he had to be where they were already eating them....at the "X" shaped intersection of 9th & Passyunk in South Philadelphia. Joe learned the cheese steak business from his father who in the early 1940's opened "Jim's Steaks". In 1966, Joe started "Geno's" with $6.00 in his pocket, 2 boxes of steaks and some hot dogs. The ingredients are simple, exacting and never greasy thinly sliced rib-eye steak, melted cheese, oven-fresh baked bread and delicately grilled onions. Awaiting your piping hot sandwich on the counter outside are ketchup, mustard, relish and Joe's choice hot sauce.

the ONLY philly cheesesteak. end of story. joey vento is fabulous, it's nice to see up-standing philadelphians with character who go above and beyond to keep customers happy. you can't say that pat's has someone like him! he actually made me my first cheese steak ever :)

I'll be honest, I like Pat's and Geno's and I usually would go to whichever line is shorter. But lately I've been going to Geno's for the simple fact that it's so clean you could eat off their floors. That means a lot in today's day and age of community infections. I feel safe eating there... Danny Boy

Great steaks. Every Friday I have to bring them home for the family or they will not let me in the house!
I craved Geno's steak everynight when I was Pregnant... I made my husband get up at 1 or 2 in the morning just to go out and get me one... And I live in NJ....
I don't care for Geno's (or Pat's for that matter). Try Jim's or Rick's.
Not much steak and they don't even melt the cheese. Very overrated place.

OMG I drive over from Jersey just to get my fix!! Absolutely the best anywhere. And clean!!
They serve good quality meats. Their facility is clean, well lit, attractive and comfortable. Their cooks and servers are friendly courteous, and pleasant.
Very clean establishment!! Great cheese stakes, fast friendly service (if you speak English), but I don't agree with their rules!!
My reasons why Geno's is the best are:
1. The place is clean;
2. The steaks are juicy and delicious;
3. The service is great!
