Geno's Steaks was started by Joe Vento back in 1966. He figured that if he was going to sell a steak, he had to be where they were already eating them....at the "X" shaped intersection of 9th & Passyunk in South Philadelphia. Joe learned the cheese steak business from his father who in the early 1940's opened "Jim's Steaks". In 1966, Joe started "Geno's" with $6.00 in his pocket, 2 boxes of steaks and some hot dogs.
The ingredients are simple, exacting and never greasy thinly sliced rib-eye steak, melted cheese, oven-fresh baked bread and delicately grilled onions. Awaiting your piping hot sandwich on the counter outside are ketchup, mustard, relish and Joe's choice hot sauce.

When I want a cheese steak, this is the place I day dream about.
All sandwiches are good and place is soooo clean !
Geno's is the BEST cheese steak in the city. I like the way they do not chop the meat. Of course it's because they use Conshohocken steak rolls.

Geno's has the best cheesesteaks in Philly! A few years ago, my nephew was in a coma for months. When he started to come around, he had to learn how to do everything all over again, which included eating. All he wanted was a Geno's steak! When I called to inquire about a gift card, the owner did more than I could have ever dreamed! He invited my nephew to Geno's. Treated us all to delicious Philly cheesesteaks. He had bags of goodies for my nephew and gave him gift cards to come back numerous times to enjoy more cheesesteaks! He even took my nephew's picture to hang outside with the rest of the pictures! I have to say... they made it a very special day for all of us!!!
I like good quality steak that is not cut up into sawdust. Geno's does not do that and the meat tastes great.

You just can't buy a better cheesesteak. Hands down the best. I haven't found a better one in years.
Do I need to explain?? We drive from Maryland to have a Geno's cheesesteak!! VERY VERY VERY CLEAN! The restuarant, the servers, everything is very neat and clean...more than can be said for others nearby.
