Established in 1899, “Dante & Luigi's, corona di ferro” is Philadelphia's OLDESTItalian restaurant and one of the oldest existing Italian restaurants in the United States.
Situated in the heart of the Italian Market district, it was once the destination of Italian immigrants arriving in Philadelphia. Unable to speak English, they arrived on the docks with the name of the restaurant written on a scrap of paper and pinned to their lapels. They were given lodging in the upstairs rooms and work in the restaurant.
Today, Dante & Luigi's retains much of the same atmosphere as it had in the past. Housed in two converted town houses, the charm of yesterday still exists. The cuisine is a well-balanced mix of homemade, “Old World” specialties, along with delicious fresh seafood and exceptional daily specials.
everything on the menu is delicious, great service always a good time with good friends at dante & luigi's
Because I love it there and the waiters make it a fun experience!
the best pasta & meatballs in the city try the chicken mellanzane awesome dish ,everything here is delicious
We have been eating here since 1983,when Donni was voted best waiter in Philly! Feel like the food was alittle better when Grandma, daughter an grandson were owners. I an full Italian and my Mothers and Fathers family cooked this style Italian,so delicious! Nothing fancy, relaxing like you are dining at your family kitchen.A glass of vino was $1.50 when we first visited this wonderful restaurant! Please put the rolled Veal dish back on the menu. Everyone should try this step back in time and enjoy!
If you are looking for the ultimate in a dining experience, the its Dante & Luigi's hands down.
Because the foods is so damn good and it's really nice place there also I have been there 4 times.
Best food around
Been going here for MANY years!!! Great classic italian food:)
This piece of Philadelphia history reminds us that a part of Italy lives on tenth street. The authentic "gravy" and fabulous Italian dishes are out of this world. Visit for a taste of how true Italian food was meant to taste. Don't forget the Italian Cream Cake to finish off your meal. Great wine list and a wait staff that has been there for decades.
Atmosphere, service, great food...Love the veal Catherine!!!!
consistantly fine italian cuisine with no pretense.
gotta try the meatballs
Ilove this place. The best Italian cooking next to my grandmom. Ask for the no shooting section
Best Italian Food in the city. 5 generations of my family have enjoyed the food and the service. A must when in Philly!
why would one eat anywhere else when in the mood for a slice of Italy??
Captures all the warmth, comfort and amazing dishes of Nona's kitchen!
Food is good, but service can be touch and go.
The best all around Italian food with great service and prices. If I'm anywhere near Philadelphia I routinely drive in for dinner. This past week I was in Baltimore and made a point to drive up to Philadelphia...the food is that good!
