Listed In: Beaches

Although Cape May Lighthouse is a major attraction for many visitors to the area, the park’s constantly changing shoreline, dunes, freshwater coastal marsh and ponds, forested islands and varied uplands make it a well-known location for viewing the fall bird migration. Located on the southern tip of New Jersey, Cape May Point State Park is a key site on the NJ Coastal Heritage Trail, with an environmental center that houses a classroom for interpretive programs and a museum on the area's natural and historic features.

Absolutely Cape May's best kept secret. Perfect for non-swimmers who just want a relaxing, quiet day at the beach. Huge beach and plenty of free parking. Why would anyone go into Cape May, search for someplace to put the car, and then have to FEED a meter?!! This beach is just one of the reasons I love living here!

It is one of the most peaceful beaches, free of course, great for just sunning yourself. You get to see all forms of birds, sealife, etc. You sit in the shadow of the Cape May Point lighthouse. The dolphins swim by quite often and come close to the shore and you are able to see them easily. But most of all it is one of the cleanest beaches anywhere. You also have a WWII bunker to check out right on the beach. It had been built several blocks from the ocean that's why the beaches here have been made wider to keep the ocean's encroachment away. It is a well kept secret, what a great beach this is.

As you say, it is a hidden treasure for anyone who just loves to walk the beach, and enjoy the atmosphere.
Quiet, calm, reserved, with great views, a lighthouse, and plenty of room for those who want to enjoy the beach (sand), without being hit with balls and frisbees, etc, plus it is quiet. Take a book, radio, and be in a world of your own.

Cape May Point State Park is a hidden Treasure. As of this moment, due to state budgets, there is no swimming, but as beaches go,there is so much more. You can fish, bird watch in the habitat, tour Cape May Point Lighthouse (aka Cape May Light), watch the Cape May-Lewes Ferry depart and arrive or just get a book, plop down on the sand and lose yourself.
