The Atlantic City Aquarium is a program of the Atlantic City Historic Waterfront Foundation (a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization), which was incorporated in 1976 and functions in a public-private partnership with the City of Atlantic City to operate and develop Historic Gardner’s Basin, the surrounding park. The aquarium is home to varied species of marine life, including Groman, the resident 100-lb loggerhead turtle. In May 2008 a Tropical Rainforest Exhibit will open. A unique feature of the Historic Gardner’s Basin as an attraction is its accessibility via watercraft. Residents and tourists visit regularly to enjoy the restaurants, the Atlantic City Aquarium, the Crafters Village, boat rides, and shopping.
